This tutorial series is based on Altium Designer 19 (also compatible with version 20), and I will continue to update it for future versions.

Adjusting Settings

To work efficiently, it's essential to set up your tools properly. When you first open Altium Designer, you can adjust some settings to make the tool more user-friendly. Find the gear icon in the upper right corner, and access the settings page for the following operations.

Setting Language to Chinese

  1. In the left-hand list, click on the System - General tab, and under the Localization section, check the Use localized resources option.
  2. Click Apply to save the settings, and restart Altium Designer.

PCB Editor

  1. In the left-hand list, click on the PCB Editor tab.
  2. Under the PCB Editor section, click on the General tab, and check the Automatic repour after modifying copper option in the Copper Pour Rebuild section; also, check the Disable open old version report and Disable open new version report options in the Document Formatting Report section; in the Other section, change the Cursor Type to Large 90.
  3. Click on the Display tab, and under the Highlight Options section, check the Apply highlight during interactive editing option.
  4. Click on the Board Insight Color Overrides tab, and under the Base Style section, select Solid (Overlay Color).
  5. Click on the DRC Violations Display tab, and under the Conflict Overlay Style section, select Solid (Overlay Color).
  6. Click Apply to save the settings, and restart Altium Designer.

Panels

  1. Close the settings page, and from the main menu, select View - Panels, then click on Components and Messages in sequence.
  2. In the top right corner of the pop-up panel, click the paperclip icon to dock the panels on the right side.

Set Background to Grid

  1. Open any PCB file (or create a new one if you don't have any).
  2. Press Ctrl + G to open the grid settings window.
  3. Under the Display section, set both the Fine and Coarse tabs to Dots.

Input Method Compatibility

If you can't use keyboard shortcuts, check if you've switched to English input (the input method status bar should show ENG). If you don't have this option, follow the steps below:
